Have you ever been here, a decision must be made or, there is a need to be met by a certain deadline – that time is approaching fast when just in time the answer, or need, is met. I call this the “Just In Time God.”
Just in time events are faith building, and miraculous. They are not the stuff of newspaper headline however because they are so subtle they have the ability to witness to usually only the recipient.
As a case in point, whilst not technically being just in time, I once hitch hiked from Melbourne to Perth. I had worked out what I thought I needed to do the trip, and was fairly confident of a good journey. I was seen off by a few friends and we had a quick pray before I committed to the road, but before I did leave one of my friends shoved a five dollar note in my hand; just in case. Everything went well; I even got a ride from Adelaide to the other side of the Nullarbor Plain and into WA. The first town in Western Australia we were stopped by the police. The driver was taken from the car and placed in a police car; the passenger was also taken and placed in a police car.
Then the officer six foot plus built to make the most of his height turned to me placed his hands on his hips and said “so what is your story”? Gulp. I replied that I was on my way to a mission north of Perth and that the fellows had brought me across the Plain then he said “right do you have proof of this”? I produced a letter of introduction from the church office in Melbourne addressed to the church office in Perth. “So OK let’s see how much cash you have” so I went through my wallet to find that all I had was the Just In Case five dollar note.
It turned out that The driver had “borrowed” his mother’s car and driven it to Adelaide to retrieve his mate whole had absconded from Perth and he was bringing him back to “face the music.” Mum, of course, had reported the car stolen and that was the reason they were now in the charge of the constabulary. As for me I was sent on my way with the comment that if I hadn’t had both the letter and the Five dollars that I also would have been in the car with my travelling companions: on a charge of vagrancy.
A much more significant illustration of this activity of God can be found in the story of George Muller who during the 19th Century raised up an orphanage entirely on faith contributions, his philosophy was that "If I, a poor man, simply by prayer and faith, obtained without asking any individual the means for establishing and carrying on an Orphan-House then this would provide visible proof that God is FAITHFUL STILL and HEARS PRAYER STILL." He became famous for sitting down to table and saying grace knowing the pantry was empty and that God would provide that meal, and He did provide after the prayer but Just in Time.
If you would like to investigate Muller’s life more it can be found on UTube—as “Robber Of The Cruel Streets: George Muller”
