~ Facing up to a Blank Page

This is not the first time it has happened to me. I think it is a normal feeling for people who write to a deadline. It is one of the reasons that I resisted this season of my life. When Father put the idea to me I fought it because I did not have enough ideas to be consistent with a regular blog, but He has been faithful and has supplied me the words to keep going.
Seventy five daily blogs plus is something to celebrate for, someone who didn’t think he had the ideas to write daily. But the celebration is not about the blogs themselves, nor about the writing of them. I celebrate the faithfulness of God, in terms of daily giving the inspiration.
Paul of Tarsus said it right, “I can do all things through Christ Jesus”. He enables me to front up daily, He encourages me when I am doing it hard and nudges me when I need a push.
So just what is this leading up to? God is straight with us. We can rely on the promises in His Book, as words of life for all. The people in the Bible are real people with real problems and feelings. So often it seems, especially those who have grown up in the church, we call these people “heroes of the faith”, the problem is that this tends to turn them into superman type models, great for inspiration and never one to actually emulate.
Take for instance, David he was a the youngest son of many brothers, he was a shepherd, he became a giant slayer, and as such he became a future king, only to be rejected by the present king. This bio is reflected in the poems that are in the book of Psalms. We see David writing words like “why God”, and “how long God”. The same writer also uses words such as “yet I will trust” and “the Lord is my shepherd”. They reflect the thoughts of an ordinary person’s feelings not just victory but also questioning in the hard times.
We can take these promises, statements, and incidents found in the Bible to the bank. Not just as history but as examples to inspire and emulate in our lives, sometimes there is hardship such as the Book of Job, but in the end Job survives and is restored. This is also a “Why God” book that addresses the themes of pain and suffering in a God concept.
There is a consistent theme throughout the books of the Bible as a key to normal life, the purpose of human life is to honour God. A secondary purpose was to be good to those around us. The prophet Micah tells us what is proper for us to do. “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” Micah 6:8 if this is not a blueprint for life then the words of Jesus, “Love the Lord your God and Love your neighbour as yourself” serves to develop the framework of a good life.
To take the good life a step further and to tie in with the celebration I started with is that God has proven Himself True and Faithful, starting with the story of Abraham and his family, right through to the current day and His constant inspiration of this Blog.
He is trustworthy; we just need to communicate this fact to those outside the Community of Faith, to invite them to meet the Master.
