I want to take us all back, way back, not to your beginning or to mine, not even to the origins of our family names. I want to take us back to before time and space existed. There are two major schools of thought that try to explain where we came from and how; there are numerous schools that have their own explanation.
The Scientist tries to use wisdom and rational thought while the spiritual use the notion that there must have been a god of sorts that caused the earth to be as it is today.
Contrary to the Westminster System of Debate, Parliamentary style, I intend to examine first the Scientific Mantra. Now it seem to me that scientists do not start from nothing, according to the big bang theory there existed something out there that exploded, chunks flew off in every direction and over millennia the solar system, and even the Universe has cooled and coagulated to the shape it is today.
Now this to me is a very interesting theory, not the least for the questions it asks, or does not answer. Questions like where did the material that went bang come from, and why did it suddenly go bang so catastrophically?
These questions raise in my mind elemental thoughts like it happened once before; actually they tell us that on top of the big bang there have been two ice ages where this planet froze or at least a substantial part of it. My mind also ranges to thinking about the issue of the predictability of the life as we know it now.
Scientists are big on “Proving” their theories, but one of the fundamental elements to the big bang is the Chaos Theory where everything can be reduced to chaotic patterns that work like ripples on a pond, growing bigger with every wave. But my issue with this is what happens when the wave hits a “brick wall” does it just stop? So to develop this one step further what implications does this have for the earth, our solar system, and for the future of mankind?
Standing “against” the scientific view is the faith view, you will note that the word “Christian” was not used. The reason for that distinction is that there are many creation stories; many of the Australian Aborigines have the rainbow snake as the former of the world for instance. However there is a broad unity of sorts between the Jews, the Muslims, and the Christians. It begins with two words “beginning God” and develops in an orderly manner until the creation of mankind first the man from the “earth” and Eve as a part of him.
God is responsible for calling the earth and everything associated with it into being, the stars, the sun and moon, all the animals, even time, then He gets His hands dirty by fashioning one like as unto Him, not a copy a similitude, then fashions one to be a companion.
The scientists will scoff and say “it didn’t happen like that” but they do not have a first cause, their theory begins with a pre-existent object, whether it was self autonomous or not. The story that the Jews, Muslims, and Christians hold essentially true starts with a First Cause His name is God in the English
I am comfortable with the Faith version, it starts with a God who is active and creative and who’s intent right from the beginning was to commune with mankind and work toward our benefit so long as we let Him. How about you?
